 ~The Fastest~

Pack 353 held its annual Pinewood Derby today at the Nottingham Country Elementary where we pitted car against car to see who could build the fastest car.  We had donuts, sodas, and sewed some patches while we watched over 70 cars compete for the title.  In the end, every scout was a winner as their hard work was on display.  The makers of the fastest cars were:

  • 1st Place - Lance from Den 5 (Wolf)
  • 2nd Place - Luke from Den 3 (Webelo II)
  • 3rd Place - Jeremy from Den 6 (Bear)

Complete Results can be found here: 2010PinewoodDerbyResults.html

For scouts that made a qualifying car, we presented them with a Pinewood Derby Patch for their uniform.  We also had competitions for a variety of other titles as well for the scouts that showed their creative and artistic abilities.  Be sure to click "View All" at the end of each group to see all the photos we've collected from this event.

Pack 353's annual Christmas Pack meeting will be this Friday at 6pm in the NCE Cafeteria. Please remember the location as this will be our first meeting at NCE this school year. The Christmas Crafts pack meeting is a great time for crafts and fun as each den will host a station that will allow the scouts to work on their own craft.  The crafts range from cookie decorating, to ornament making, to card making.  The kids have a great time and go from station to station at their heart's delight. Please contact your den leader to see if there is anything you can do to help your den's craft table.

Cub Scout Pack 353 Helps KCM Load Santa’s Sleigh

Thirty-four Cub Scouts, adult leaders, and family members from Pack 353 braved chilly winds and melting snow on Saturday, Dec. 5, 2009, to help Katy Christian Ministries load Santa’s Sleigh with packages, bicycles, Christmas stockings, and wrappings donated by Katy area families and businesses.  Cub Scouts in 1st through 5th grades unloaded donor vehicles and arranged items for easy check-in.  After check-in, Cubs moved items ahead to the staging area in preparation for Santa’s Sleigh deliveries to approximately 900 Katy area children representing 350 families.

Comments from this year’s Pack 353 participants:
“I’ll carry that bicycle!”  “Aww, I was hoping to carry a heavier package!”  “Look at all those stockings, and they’re already stuffed!”  “You hold the front end and I’ll hold the back!”  “I can carry two bags.”  “How did they get all that stuff into one car?”  “Wow, there are five bags and two bicycles going to the same place!  They’re gonna’ be surprised!”

Cub Scout Pack 353 is part of the Texas Skies District of Sam Houston Area Council and chartered by St. Peter’s United Methodist Church. Monthly meetings are held at Nottingham Country Elementary and St. Peter’s UMC.

POPCORN HAS ARRIVED!  If you haven't already picked up your popcorn, please contact your den leader to coordinate a time to pick up your orders.  Scouters, please try to distribute quickly so our patrons can enjoy their popcorn during the holidays!

We had another great sales this year! Great job to all of our scouters that got out there and sold for the benefit of scouting and to our pack.

Pack 353 completed our 2009 fall camping with many satisfied kids and adults.  About half of the families arrived Friday evening, with the rest of the approx 45 families joining us early Saturday morning.  Each den had their own agendas during the mid-day of Friday with most of them taking 2-3 mile hikes throughout the Lost Pines forest.  Some went fishing (as opposed to catching) while others completed projects such as building a toolbox and other achievements supporting their rank advancement.

On Saturday night, most dens enjoyed a group dinner including fajitas, stews and other great campout foods.  During campfire, we had a great show of skits and songs while our kids had a chance to show their talents!  Saturday night wrapped up with traditional 'Smores and the whole pack had a chance to head to their tents for some rest after hours of fun with their scooters going up and down the slopes, while others "Climbed The HILL" and explored the terrain that is so different from our own here in Katy.

Camping Families, if you have photos that you'd like to share, please send them to  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it   so that everyone can enjoy the great fun and activities.
