Pack 353 is a Cub Scout Pack from St. Peters United Methodist Church.
Pack 353 commonly recruits new boys on School Night for Scouting, in the
fall of each year. However, becoming a member can happen at any time of the year.
Pack 353 was originally chartered at Nottingham Elementary School in January 1982; soon after NCE itself was opened within the Katy Independent School District (KISD).
For approximately 12 years, NCE was able to support a second "sister"
pack numbered 1353 due to the large number of scouts. Now, reunited,
Pack 353 boasts a proud history of providing a foundation of integrity,
values, and fun.
The Pack is officially chartered with the Boy Scouts of America (BSA)
and the charter is renewed every year in early December. Our pack is
sometimes referred to as a Unit in the BSA vernacular. Other type of
units are Boy Scout Troop, Ventureing Crews, etc. The pack is part of
the hieracrhial structure of BSA as follows:
Who can join Cub Scouts? Boys in 1st-5th grades. Older boys interested in scouting join Boy Scouts.
How is our Pack organized? Cub Scout Packs are organized into a number of Dens by age group and are led by one or more parents (Den or Webelos Leaders). Dens typically meet once a week and work on various skills and activities. The entire Pack meets monthly typically at the Deren Huff Scout House across the parking lot from St. Peter's United Methodist Church..
Dens are organized by school grade:
- 1st Grade: Tiger Cubs
- 2nd Grade: Wolves
- 3rd Grade: Bears
- 4th Grade: Blue Webelos
- 5th Grade: Gold Webelos
As a parent, you can be assured that Boys Scouting
- Encourages good citizenship
- Teaches useful skills and physical fitness
- Supports moral and ethical behavior
- Offers many opportunities for self-advancement and learning
- Provides outdoor experiences with an emphasis on safety
